Chiropractor Trains Reality TV Star for Ironman TriathlonRyan Sutter, better known as the man who captured the heart of "The Bachelorette," Trista Rehn, recently completed the Ironman Triathlon in Kona, Hawaii - with the help of Joel Dekanich, DC, EMT, CCSP, CSCS.
Dr. Dekanich, a chiropractor from Vail, Colo., helped Sutter prepare for the triathlon with a specific treatment plan aimed at maximizing efficiency and flexibility. Dr. Dekanich, who is also a triathlete and Ironman finisher, was part of the medical staff and worked as an emergency medical technician at the finish line, treating athletes after they completed the grueling competition.
Sutter, who is a firefighter and the national spokesperson for the Firefighters National Trust, competed in the race to challenge himself and raise money for the fallen firefighters' charity.
The Ironman Triathlon is regarded as the preeminent endurance race in the world. Participants must complete a 2.4-mile swim in the Pacific Ocean, a 112-mile bike ride, followed by a full marathon of 26.2 miles. The race leads athletes through some of the toughest terrain on the planet.
