CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 3, 1996--Prolink Microsystems Corporation (Prolink) introduced today at Comdex/Spring its PixelView Combo TV Plus, a second-generation combo card that provides both advanced-quality video playback and full desktop-TV capabilities in an affordable package.

With a single card, Prolink gives consumers enhanced multimedia functionality for live digital video and PC applications, including MPEG-1 playback, video capture, and the ability to view live broadcast TV news/programs and teletext information. Based on Cirrus Logic's VisualMedia(TM) Accelerator (CL-GD5446) and TV Decoder (CL-PX4072), the PixelView Combo TV Plus is designed to deliver new levels of quality and price/performance to Prolink's end-user customers worldwide.

In addition to providing advanced-quality video playback and full desktop TV capabilities, the PixelView combo card offers a number of advanced features, including a 122-channel, cable-ready TV tuner that connects to cable television outlets, VCRs, digital cameras or camcorders. Users can easily incorporate TV, videotaped programming, or live video into their computing environment. Users can also view video-in-a-window while simultaneously running other graphics operations.

Additionally, Prolink offers an optional infrared wireless RemoteMaster, an industry exclusive, that offers a multimedia remote solution to control audio, TV, video and windows applications. The advanced-performance remote controller features 31 keys operations and is user definable for different windows applications. For example, users can control play, volume, pause, and stop functions of CD-ROM play or select channels, picture, volume and on-off functions of the TV card, from a distance of up to 33 feet from their computer.

For additional convenience, the combo card also features an on-screen TV remote control panel, a user interface that lets users change channels, zoom video to full screen, and adjust controls. All this can be accomplished simply by pointing and clicking the mouse, either manually or through the RemoteMaster. The convenient interface is a visual software feature that was innovated by Cirrus Logic.

The CL-GD5446 combines leading-edge graphics performance and unprecedented video quality in an integrated single-chip device. The chip plays CD-ROM video clips and disk-based video files, including MPEG titles, in full-screen at up to 30 frames per second with fully synchronized sound and minimal impact to the system operation. In addition, the chip's transparent BitBLT and page-flipping features provide outstanding DirectDraw and games performance.

The CL-PX4072 is a highly-enhanced Digital Video Decoder which converts NTSC, PAL, or SECAM video signals into digital signals for use in multimedia applications on PCs. Optimized for use with the CL-GD5446, the CL-PX4072 is a flexible hardware foundation that provides a complete set of functions with sophisticated features to ensure high-resolution TV-in-a-window or live video display on the PC.
