Philips debuts its biggest plasma - Products - is launching its largest ever FlatTV

Ian Evans

PHILIPS is launching its largest ever FlatTV, the 50PF9964. Following in the footsteps of the 42PF9964 and 32PF9964 sets, the new 50in flagship xpromises state-of-the-art picture performance on an expansive wall mounted footprint.

The 50in high-definition, gas plasma display panel will deliver high resolution picture quality to boost the performance of the latest video and multimedia sources such as DVD and digital TV broadcasts.

Combine this with its super-slim 110mm deep profile and discrete yet stylish titanium frame and the 50PF9964 delivers a breathtaking home-cinema experience.

Incorporating Philips's proprietary picture enhancement technologies, Digital Natural Motion, Digital Crystal Clear and Active Control, the 50PF9964 plasma serves up top-quality picture definition, in an attempt to guarantee the smooth transition of motion footage, keen sharpness, high contrast and outstandingly vivid colours.

Digital Natural Motion uses high-powered digital processors to predict the path of an object in motion, eliminating any juddering while Active Control automatically adjusts and maintains optimum picture quality when the picture source is changed.

Further picture enhancements come through Digital Crystal Clear technology that utilises a combination of effects, such as Dynamic Contrast, Comb Filter, Luminance Transient Improvement and Colour Enhancement.

These maintain natural contrast, eradicate cross-colour effects, clarify brightness activity and faithfully reproduce colour schemes.

Continuing Philips's quest for style, the 50PF9964 is packed with an `e-box', a compact unit that conceals unsightly cable bundles in one clever package.

The features don't stop there. The 50PF9964 includes 1,200 page advanced Teletext navigation functions, Hypertext and Wordsearch.

Consumers can activate full dual-screen mode for simultaneously watching two different channels or animate the `mosaic' screen function, that displays a main picture flanked by eight smaller pictures from other channels.
