Panasonic 42 Hdtv
Panasonic's New HDTV LineLoyd CasePanasonic's latest lineup of plasma HDTVs include 37-inch, 42-inch and 50-inch models. The company is integrating a digital-cable ready tuner, complete with CableCard slot for subscriber management. Each Viera plasma TV includes an SD card slot for transferring digital media; the 42-inch and 50-inch TVs will also have a PCMCIA card slot. Inputs include an HDMI serial digital input as well as component video and other analog inputs.
The three HDTV models support 720P resolutions; additional 37-inch and 42-inch "enhanced definition" model will also be available. Panasonic claims to have improved the image quality of their plasma displays, which is one reason they've created a new branding for their flat panel TV line. They've also added new plasma panel manufacturing capacity, allowing them to ship 1 million plasma screens in 2004 and 1.5 million units in 2005.
Suggested retail prices are $4,999 for the 37-inch model, $5,999 for the 42-inch and $8,499 for the 50-inch screen. The Viera line is currently slated to ship in April of 2004. The company will also be offering smaller, LCD flat panels under the Viera brand.
