Online Internet Tv
TV stations test streaming media waters - Internet/Web/Online Service Information - Brief Article SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Broadband Internet access is opening up a new distribution channel for traditional media companies -- streaming media.
Streaming media (digitized and compressed video) gives traditional media companies a way to extend their brand onto the Internet when their traditional TV audience is at the office. A recent report from Cahners In-Stat Group (www.instat.com) predicts local TV stations will use streaming media Web sites to nibble away at the user bases of Yahoo! and America Online.
"Bandwidth brats," those who obtain free high-speed Internet access at work and at universities, will demand similar performance at home via ADSL digital telephone or cable modem service. New digital delivery services will appear, according to the report. And as television content is "streamed" onto the Net, TV stations and other traditional media outlets will begin to usurp market share from big online players such as Yahoo! because TV "content is more compelling than Web-based information," the report says.
