Jvc Hdtv
JVC intros ProHD camera and deck at show WAYNE, NJ -- JVC is showing a professional, yet affordable, HD camcorder at this year's NAB. The "ProHD" GY-HD100U offers true 24p capture and recording capabilities along with the features and stability found in higher-priced shoulder-style models.
The GY-HD100U uses three new 1/3-inch CCD image sensors, each one featuring an array of 1280X720 pixels (approximately 1 megapixel), with micro lenses. Its native resolution matches most of the HDTV displays available. In addition, the camcorder provides realtime playback in all major DTV formats. The camera includes a standard detachable 16x Servo Fujinon lens. It records to inexpensive MiniDV cassettes. JVC (www.jvc.com/pro) is also offering a companion HD recorder/player, the BR-HD50U. The unit allows users to transfer both ProHD and Pro DV recordings to and from nonlinear editing systems.
Pricing was not set at press time, but a JVC executive says the camera is expected to cost below $10K. Both are available in June.
