The first annual New York Television Festival (NYTVF) will launch in New York, beginning September 28th and running through October 3rd. As the first creative festival focused solely on the television medium, the NYTVF will pioneer the movement of independent television and construct a new path for program development. Writers, directors and producers will be selected through a national and international grassroots search and given the unprecedented opportunity to showcase their originally produced pilots directly to network and cable executives in a festival competition. The NYTVF will also feature gala premieres, classic screenings, open-call castings, panel discussions and other interactive events for the public to encourage participation by television fans of all ages.

The Festival will be presented in association with TV Guide(R), which has signed a sponsorship agreement with the festival that includes participation of TV Guide magazine, TV Guide Channel, TV Guide.com, and the company's new television magazine for women, Inside TV. TV Guide will produce the festival's exclusive NYTVF program guide and promote the Festival across many of its entertainment products. Additionally, the TV Guide Channel will provide coverage of the Festival, leading up to the event, on-site and as a post-event wrap-up. TV Guide Channel will cover the shows' luminaries, events and news, as well as showcasing previews of the festival programming. TV Guide.com will host a dedicated Festival Web page, and have exclusive online rights to trailers and promos from all programming in competition in the two weeks prior to the festival. "The 2005 New York Television Festival aims to create a new forum for program development by uniting all participants of production, including emerging artists, executives, celebrities, and the general public, in the celebration of an American institution. The challenge is to raise the bar creatively. Television, being our greatest shared medium, should in turn be our greatest shared canvas," said Terence Gray, founder and executive director, New York Television Festival. "Our relationship with TV Guide is a perfect alliance for the Festival. They are one of the most trusted names in TV and bring countless promotional and creative opportunities to this Festival."

"Almost from the moment TV sets began popping up in family rooms everywhere, TV Guide has been the authority on all things television, from the extraordinary to the routine. Today, TV Guide continues to be the leading voice for what is best in television today, helping consumers navigate through the explosion of television content," said Rich Battista, CEO, Gemstar-TV Guide International, Inc. "We are proud to support the NYTVF and to play a role as they bring the industry's creators and its fans together for this innovative television celebration."

The festival is working with the Mayor's Office of New York City, which is providing invaluable assistance in terms of promotion and logistics for the event. Working in conjunction with the Mayor's Office will prove vital in creating a festival atmosphere that embraces all New Yorkers in addition to the industry figures attending the event.

Submissions to the NYTVF will consist of pilot programs, independently produced by television artists, running either a half-hour or hour in length. Categories for submissions are as follows: Drama, Comedy, Reality, Documentary, and Animation. Submissions are being accepted at www.newyorktelevisionfestival.com through August 1, 2005.
