Emblaze Research and IXI Mobile Join Forces to Enable New Bluetooth-Enabled Multimedia Devices

Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

3GSM World Congress 2002

PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 30, 2002

Emblaze Research, a wholly owned subsidiary of Emblaze Systems (LSE:BLZ) and IXI Mobile today announced a partnership to enable radically new wireless imaging, video, and multimedia devices. The partnership includes the development of reference designs for new Bluetooth-enabled sleek cameras that can send pictures or video via a Personal Mobile Gateway (PMG), IXI's technology that combines Bluetooth and Cellular connections. The partnership will enable manufacturers to quickly develop low cost sleek cameras that consumers will use to wirelessly store and distribute pictures, video, or multimedia files.

As part of the agreement, Emblaze Research will develop Bluetooth products to work with IXI-enabled PMG, including a Bluetooth Video Camera that streams live video and takes still pictures. Some of the products will be demonstrated at the 3GSM World Conference on February 19-22, 2002.

"This partnership is one more step towards a paradigm shift in the wireless market," said Amit Haller, president and CEO of IXI Mobile, Inc. "The market will soon open to new players and a variety of entirely new cost-effective devices will be introduced that are connected via a Personal Mobile Gateway (PMG). We are excited to partner with Emblaze to enable companies to develop these new wireless multimedia devices."

"IXI's personal mobile gateway technology (PMG) gives instant, always-on connectivity to our Bluetooth video camera designs," said Alon Ironi, CEO of Emblaze Research. "We are pleased to partner with this innovative company to make a variety of new devices and technologies based on our MPEG-4 codec chips available to consumers."

The partnership also involves the development of reference designs for a wireless keychain camera as well as other new Bluetooth-enabled multimedia devices. Emblaze and IXI are working closely together to develop and market the reference designs to leading companies interested in entering the lucrative wireless market.

IXI and Emblaze will demonstrate the new capabilities at the 3GSM Conference in Cannes, France, from February 19 to February 22, 2002, at the IXI booth, Hall 4, L22.
