Storage: SanDisk Will Supply Canon With CompactFlash Digital Film Cards for New Canon PowerShot A50 Digital Camera - Company Business and Marketing

SanDisk Corporation announced Tuesday that it will supply Canon with removable, reusable CompactFlash (CF) digital film memory cards for Canon's new PowerShot A50 digital camera. A SanDisk 8MB (megabyte) CF card will be included with the sale of every PowerShot A50 digital camera, the world's smallest and lightest zoom lens-equipped megapixel camera. Canon's new camera is the 76th digital camera that has been introduced with specific slots for CompactFlash memory cards to capture and store images. CF cards are economical as they can be reused to take millions of pictures. CompactFlash is the world's largest selling digital film product. Nelson Chan, SanDisk's vice president of marketing, said, "The PowerShot A50 is the fifth digital camera that Canon has introduced with SanDisk CompactFlash digital film and underscores Canon's continuing commitment to our CompactFlash. Canon has been very successful with its earlier CF-based digital cameras, including the popular PowerShot A5, and this model looks like a winner with its superb styling, convenient small size and zoom lens capability." The Canon PowerShot A50 is a 1.31 million pixel digital camera that comes with software bundles enabling users to enhance digital images in Mac and PC formats. The all-metal camera has a sharp 4.3-10.8 f/2.6-4.0 zoom lens, a built-in flash, optical viewfinder and a 2-inch LCD monitor. The camera is small enough to fit in a shirt pocket, briefcase or purse, thus combining convenience with quality and ease of use. The new PowerShot A50 will be available at authorized Canon dealers in the second half of 1999. Estimated street price for the camera will be established closer to the availability date. SanDisk-branded CompactFlash cards, ranging in capacity between 4 and 48MB, are available at more than 7,000 stores worldwide as well as through an extensive worldwide industrial distribution channel. New SanDisk CF cards with capacities of 64, 80 and 96MB will be available in stores starting in May 1999. SanDisk Corporation, the world's largest supplier of flash data storage products, designs, manufactures and markets industry-standard, solid-state data, digital imaging and audio storage products using its patented, high density flash memory and controller technology. SanDisk is based in Sunnyvale, CA. FMI: http://www.sandisk.com.
